People use the following categories for three reasons:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>They <i>encourage<\/i> <i>brainstorming. <\/i>If you consider these categories and what people are doing, you will not leave out something important<\/li>\n<li>They help to <i>organize<\/i> <i>information<\/i> and to identify relationships<\/li>\n<li>They <i>force<\/i> <i>disaggregation<\/i>\u2014if something fits in more than one, you can unpack it<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><em>Symbols and Occasions<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"info\">More examples coming soon. This page is not in the printed Guide.<\/p>\n<p class=\"info\">In parts of Bosnia in the early &#8217;00s it was not unusual to find villages where most of the houses were flying a Croatian or Serbian national flag.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nThis defiant message emphasized <a href=\"http:\/\/www.principletopractice.org\/from-principle-to-practice\/unfairness-through-different-value-for-different-lives\/\">difference<\/a> rather than <a href=\"http:\/\/www.principletopractice.org\/from-principle-to-practice\/fairness-through-recognizing-value\/\">shared value<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.principletopractice.org\/from-principle-to-practice\/disrespect-through-hostile-competition\/\">hostile competition<\/a> rather than <a href=\"http:\/\/www.principletopractice.org\/from-principle-to-practice\/collaboration-and-respect\/\">cooperation<\/a>.
